In 2003, Malcolm Middleton, the fellow member of Arab Strap regularly credited with "most things melodic," released the cumbersomely titled solo album 5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine, issued through Chemikal Underground. Two years by and by, he followed it up with the more focussed Into the Woods, set up out by the like label. Neither record album was a marvellous loss from his form with Aidan Moffat (both lyrically and sonically), though the songwriting was on occasion more self-absorbed, seepage with diffidence and grief. Shortly later on Arab Strap's amicable rip, he released A Brighter Beat (2007).

Formed in Detroit, MI, in 1997, Gore Gore Girls were one of the pioneers in the garage stone revitalisation resistance of the southeasterly Michigan expanse. Their campy image and identify may accept suggested a poppy kindling band, only the actual sound was a far more appealing blend of daughter radical melodies and garage rock 'n' roll attitude. They were sooner made up of guitar player Amy Surdu, drummer Jeff Klein, and bassist Paula Regalado. In 1998, Deanne Iovan joined, taking Regalado's dummy space when she left field the set. Deb Agolli sign-language up to play drums and sing, and the novel batting holy Order recorded a single in front introduction Strange Girls in 2000. Before the timber ending the band was shaken up, as they lost Agolli after the recording, and plugged in guitar musician Melody Licious, formerly of Broadzilla, after she left field Stroker Ace. Shifts inside Gore Gore Girls continued for the remaining months. Iovan left wing in spring 2001 and drummer Monica Breen fit the skins so the circle could racetrack record its third record album, Up All Night. Prior to its tone termination, Breen left wing and ex-Inside Out Cathy Carrell took the permanent brake drum bottom. Up All Night was released in the summertime of 2002 to a good reply, which reflected the excitation that had grownup in the Detroit scene from the success of picture favorites the White Stripes. The numerical group became a dearie on Steven Van Zandt's pop Underground Garage wireless program, even making an appearance alongside Iggy & the Stooges, the New York Dolls, and the Pretty Things at Van Zandt's avail department careen fete in New York City. The striation returned to the studio flat in 2004 for the 7x4 EP, followed by their rough debut for Bloodshot Records, the Jim Diamond-produced Develop the Gore in 2007.

Opinion Piece Calls For Comprehensive Policies To Reduce Abortion Rates, Improve Health Among Black Women

Accusations in the media that black women have higher miscarriage rates than white women because miscarriage is "more than aggressively marketed" toward blacks "mis[s] the point and distrac[t] from the real issue: the persistent health disparities faced by women, and work force, in the African-American biotic community," Melissa Gilliam, an associate degree professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago and hot seat of the Guttmacher Institute's board of directors, writes in a Philadelphia Inquirer opinion piece.

According to Gilliam, black women have higher rates of abortions than white women because they have much higher rates of unintended pregnancies. "In other words, there is no pauperism to resort to far-flung conspiracy theories to excuse the higher abortion rate among black women," Gilliam says. Gilliam writes that the abortion rates among black women are part of the larger pictorial matter of disproportionately worse sexual and reproductive health outcomes compared with people from other races and that the solution causes of general health disparities among blacks, ar "manifold." There is a "long history of favouritism; lack of access to high caliber, affordable wellness care; likewise few educational and professional opportunities; unequal access to safe, clean neighborhoods; and, for some African-Americans, a lingering distrust of the medical community," she adds.

Gilliam writes that as a bleak woman, a physician and a generative health specialist, she sees "on a daily basis the real life consequences of unequal access to skillful health charge," adding that is wherefore she "strongly believe[s] that those professing fear for the well-being of African-American women have an obligation to put the issue of abortion in its proper context and to support evidence-based policies that would have a positive impact."

According to Gilliam, "there ar no gentle solutions to these coordination compound challenges." However, she writes that policies that could make an immediate shock are up "sexual health literacy," support of comprehensive sex training programs all over abstinence-only programs, and empowering black women to bettor plan their pregnancies. Gilliam also says that "proved policies" include boosting financial backing for Title X programs, expanding Medicaid eligibility for family provision services and supporting working parents through paid fed up leave, subsidised child caution and low-cost health insurance.

Gilliam writes her challenge to antiabortion advocates is to "stop throwing out inflammatory terms like genocide and instead channel their considerable energies and resources into supporting policies that abbreviate the pauperization for abortion." She concludes, "Let's get serious around helping women and their families, including women in the African-American community" (Gilliam, Philadelphia Inquirer, 8/10).

Glastonbury Festival registration opens

Ticket registration has opened for this year's Glastonbury Festival.
Fans who want to get hold of one of the 137,500 tickets must provide contact details and a passport photo in order to receive a registration number.
The number does not guarantee entry to the festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton, however fans will not be able to buy a ticket without one.
They have until Friday 14 March to register their interest via the festival's website. Tickets will then go on sale on Sunday 6 April.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has confirmed legendary US crooner Neil Diamond will play the Sunday headline slot.
Eavis also said this year's Saturday headliner was a hip-hop "legend" from New York, but wouldn't confirm or deny if it was platinum-selling recording artist Jay-Z.
He said: "We're trying to get youngsters to the festival this year. Hopefully the headliner will appeal to them. Traditionally we've had a very white line-up and I'm moving away from that."
The Glastonbury Festival will take place from 27 to 29 June.

5fad.com Files Lawsuit Against Baidu.com for Copyright Infringement in the US

HANGZHOU, China, June 11 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- 5fad.com, a leading
online digital music provider in China ( http://www.5fad.com ), announced
today that it has filed a lawsuit against Baidu.com, Inc. on June 10 at the
United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The
lawsuit focuses on copyright infringement against Baidu.com. The District
Court has since accepted the case.

The litigation seeks relief against an ongoing infringement of the
Plaintiff's copyrights in a number of music works ("Copyrighted Works").
The Defendant stands accused of allowing internet users to directly listen
to and download Copyrighted Works via the Defendant's website without
Plaintiff's authorization. Plaintiff seeks declaratory, injunctive and
monetary relief for willful copyright infringement.

Mr. Wu Duanping, CEO of 5fad.com said, "This litigation will be a
cornerstone in China's Intellectual Property protection cases."

Searching for mp3 is an important service of Baidu.com, and it has made
a big contribution to the company. If the Defendant loses the case, it may
ultimately be asked to abandon this kind of service. A victory for 5fad.com
could also evoke other record companies to do the same thing. Such actions
could be beneficial to China's digital culture industry and help change the
current stagnation.

5fad.com is confident that the US courts will grant an appropriate
outcome in response to the lawsuit.

Heroes star admits to lesbian 'experiment'

Hayden Panettiere once had a lesbian experience, admitting she "experimented" with her female friends when she was growing up.

The 18-year-old Heroes star said: “It’s great to be single. It’s great to have boyfriends. Or girlfriends. There are occasions when you kiss your best friend growing up, having fun and goofing about. Like perfecting your technique.”

Hayden - who is rumoured to be dating her ‘Heroes’ co-star Milo Ventimiglia – refused to talk about her love life.

She said: “People are more interested in who celebrities are dating than the events going in the world. I’m not shallow. And I’m not sharing.”

The actress also revealed she doesn’t care about paparazzi attention, and prefers to concentrate on her career.

She added to Britain’s Glamour magazine: “I think there are some people who like that sort of attention more than others. I used to walk my dogs in my pyjamas and couldn’t have cared less, but you become paranoid and you get worried.”

Natacha Atlas & The Mazeeka Ensemble, Ana Hina

Singer Natacha Atlas is now recording in London rather than Cairo, but perversely this is her most traditionally Arabic album, at least in terms of its nostalgia. Working with musical director Harvey Brough, she's chosen a classicist acoustic approach, as opposed to her usual electronic reinventions of Middle Eastern and North African sounds.

Natacha's fluttering voice is very prominent in the mix, allowing the space to savour every detail of her ornamented phrasing. Around half of the songs have a 1940s or 50s aura, sensitively interpreted by an orchestra of serpentine strings, ney flute, oud, percussion and a horn section that includes Julian Siegel. The Egyptian star Gamal Al Kordy makes a notable contribution on accordion; an apt inclusion given his involvement in many of the original recordings of these songs.

It's not all Arabic traditionalism, though. The Atlas/Brough songwriting partnership has produced four originals and a pair of arrangements, which revisit ancient folk forms, both Western and Eastern. Two of the originals possess strange echoes of other songs, with the title track evoking both Jacques Brel and James Brown's It's A Man's World.

A reading of Black Is The Colour follows Nina Simone's formula; just voice, piano and strings, sung in English. There's also an eerie version of a Frida Kahlo poem, in its original Spanish, sung as a duo with baroque guitarist and oud player Clara Sanabras, who this time opts for a pinging ukulele. And then, Brough re-arranges Hayati Inta, taken from the last Atlas album, driving all night down the highway of doom.

El Asil, from the book of Egyptian singer Abdul Halim Hafez, is followed by a lush arrangement of a tune that's at least 500 years old, with an exquisite ney/accordion conversation as its introduction. Such diversity might sound excessive in print, but the experience of gliding down these wayward alleyways produces a seamless sensation of high creativity, tastefully programmed. Ana Hina is set to be one of the year's finest albums.

Blondie connects "Parallel Lines" to tour

Simon dTOUR Live Presented by ABC Family Connects Pop Stars and Top Brands at Simon Malls

Free Concert Event Combines Music, Fashion, Technology

INDIANAPOLIS, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Teens coast-to-coast
will enjoy some of their favorite pop-music stars while exploring what's
new in technology, fashion and fun during the 2008 Simon dTOUR Live
Presented by ABC Family, a free, live concert and lifestyle event touring
24 Simon malls nationwide this summer, it was announced today.

Simon dTOUR Live, developed by Simon Brand Ventures, the business-to-
consumer arm of Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE: SPG), will run from
mid-June through late August.

The biggest teen mall tour in America, Simon dTOUR Live lets teens hear
some of their favorite musicians live while enjoying their favorite brands
through interactive games, online contests, and other activities sponsored
by ABC Family, Coca-Cola, and Sprint.

"Simon dTOUR Live showcases some of the pop-rock acts that today's
teens love most, which is one reason why it has become the most significant
mall tour targeting teens," said Cathi Weiner, senior vice president, Simon
Brand Ventures. "In the past, we have showcased high-profile young stars
working their way up the charts, including Ashlee Simpson, Taylor Swift,
Plain White T's, Brooke Hogan, and others while they were building their
early followings," Weiner said. "Today, through partnering with Universal
Music Group Distribution, we've evolved into a vehicle sought by
pop-rockers after they hit it big, like the platinum-selling All American
Rejects, and chart-climbers Forever the Sickest Kids, and Kate Voegele,
just to name a few," she said.

A Cursive Memory has also signed on to the tour. The band's first
video, "Everything," set a new record on MySpace.com for the most-viewed
video by a pop-rock band. This year's line-up also includes Switches, Push
Play, SAFETYSUIT, and PlayRadioPlay.

The tour launches June 13 in Nashua, N.H., and wraps on August 24 in
the Chicago area after visiting 24 Simon malls across the country,
including nine Mills-branded properties.

This year, aspiring musicians are invited to get in on the act with the
2008 Simon dTOUR Live Video Booth. Those with a penchant for performing can
sing along with their favorite songs and then email their performance to
their friends, as well as upload it onto the official dTOUR Web site,
http://www.simondtour.com, for voting by other dTOUR fans. The top-vote-getter
will get the chance to see his or her performance broadcast across 49 Simon
malls from coast to coast on Simon's own OnSpot Digital Network.

"Simon dTOUR Live has become a full, 360-degree interactive event where
sponsors are able to interact with young people in their element-hearing
their favorite bands live at a Simon Mall, downloading songs or ringtones,
posting photos on Myspace.com\roadie4dtour, and connecting with other dTOUR
attendees at Facebook.com," Weiner said. "This year's tour will be more
innovative and connected than ever before."

For example, she said, fans who register at http://www.simondtour.com become
eligible to win meet-and-greet sessions with their favorite dTOUR artists,
get autographs, pose for photos with the musicians, and become eligible to
win a $250 Simon Visa Giftcard shopping spree through a drawing prior to
the event. Sponsors and their planned activities include:

-- ABC Family - ABC Family will give teens the chance to get creative by
designing their own T-shirt or tote bag with different designs and
logos from shows, and audience members will be invited on stage to
participate in the exciting ABC Family Puzzle Race.

-- Coca-Cola - Consumers can enjoy the Coke sampling area, equipped with
state-of-the-art, interactive, touch-screen vending machines never
before seen in the U.S., featuring music, video, and more. Coke will
give away eight specially designed, limited-edition "West Meets East"
8.5 oz aluminum bottles, while supplies last. Teens will also have the
chance to design their very own unique digital Coke bottle online.
Finally, teens can have their picture taken with simulated versions of
our Coke Olympic Athletes, which they can pick up at the Simon dTOUR
Live Web site using photo retrieval cards distributed at the event.

-- Sprint - Sprint will showcase the latest in cell-phone technology and
accessories in conjunction with their partners -- Sanyo, Samsung, Palm,
LG, Sandisk, Skinit, Jabra & Glu. Teens will also have the opportunity
to play Plinko and win prizes for matching popular text anagrams.
Throughout the event, Sprint will shower audience members with special
giveaways.

Simon dTOUR Live is the cornerstone of Simon's teen platform, which
integrates tailored brand sponsorships with exciting and interactive
entertainment, events and concerts. The program illustrates Simon Brand
Ventures' ability to engage consumers and retailers with a fully integrated
multi-media experience at the point-of-sale.
